About Saroyan at The Saroyan
In honor of the centennial year of William Saroyan’s birth, four distinguished scholars will meet to discuss the impact Fresno’s famous author contributed to the world of literature.
Moderator Annette Keogh earned a Ph.D. in English at Stanford University where she now works as the William Saroyan Curator for the American and British libraries.
The panelists are: Saroyan’s attorney Bruce J. Janigian who heads the U.S. delegation to the European Academy of Sciences and Arts and is vice president of the American University of Armenia. Writer Richard Rodriguez earned degrees from Stanford and Columbia universities and studied in London on a Fulbright fellowship. Author of a number of books, Rodriguez describes the Saroyan phenomenon perfectly: "… I was held by his unaffected voice, his sentimentality, his defiant individualism. I found myself in the stories he told." Dr. Jon Whitmore, president of Texas Tech University, earned his Ph.D. in Dramatic Arts from UC Santa Barbara where he wrote his dissertation on the dramatic writings of Saroyan.Additional Information:
