Kevin Kallaugher

Political Cartoonist

Daggers Drawn

November 15, 2017 | 10:30am | William Saroyan Theatre

Pulitzer Prize finalist for political cartooning, Kevin Kallaugher, has come a long way from drawing caricatures of tourists on the streets of London’s Trafalgar Square, a trade the recent Harvard graduate took up after his job playing basketball fell through. The prestigious Economist Magazine took note of his talent and hired him as their first resident cartoonist. Since 1978 he has drawn satirical commentary on current political events under the name of KAL for The Economist and The Baltimore Sun. Over a 38-year career, he has drawn more than 8,000 cartoons and 140 magazine covers.

With his keen eye and sharp wit, KAL lampoons the powerful and skewers the puffery of the political elites on the world stage. He frequently speaks in defense of satire and the right to freedom of expression necessary in our society.
