One Writer’s Trip: From the Garden to the Plate and the Beyond

March 21, 2018 | 10:30am | William Saroyan Theatre

For twenty years, Michael Pollan has written books and articles about the places where the human and natural worlds intersect: food, agriculture, gardens, drugs, and architecture. He is the author of the bestsellers In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto and The Omnivore’s Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals, which was named one of the ten best books of 2006 by The New York Times and The Washington Post.

In this autobiographical talk, Michael Pollan tells the story of the path his thinking and writing has taken. Over time his work has evolved into an exploration of human engagement with the natural world. Rather than go to ”the wild“ in search of nature, as Americans typically do, Pollan has focused on nature as we find it closer to home: the garden, the farm, and the table.
