Rick Steves is a beloved public television host, best-selling travel guide author, international tour guide, podcast host, teacher, activist, and philanthropist. Founder and owner of Rick Steves’ Europe, Steves has built a travel business that brings more than 30,000 people to Europe annually and contributes one million dollars a year to nonprofits. As a philanthropist, Rick works closely with several advocacy groups and makes regular financial contributions to more than 170 organizations, including an annual donation of $1 million to Bread for the World. Although Steves enjoys four months a year in Europe researching new ways for Americans to travel as “temporary locals,’’ he loves returning to his hometown of Edmonds, Washington, where his office window overlooks his old junior high school. Always an advocate for traveling “through the back door,” Steves promotes lesser-known sights and getting to know the locals as the premiere way to travel. Sharing his travel experiences and discoveries, Steves teaches us how to connect more intimately with international communities, save money along the way, and broaden our global perspectives–all while having the time of our lives!
