Professor of Contemporary Politics and Foreign Policy | Author

The Evolution of The American Presidency

March 13, 2019 | 10:30am | William Saroyan Theatre

“We should research with monkish rigor, as we write (and lecture) with novelistic flair.”

These words reflect Dr. Suri’s own personality and his approach to the study and understanding of the repercussions of historical trends on the modern world.  His academic work seeks to explain how war, migration, nation-building, and mobility through higher education have transformed the workings of power at the local and international levels.

He is the author and editor of nine books on contemporary politics and foreign policy.  His most recent book is titled, The Impossible Presidency, The Rise and Fall of America’s Highest Office.  He discusses the transformation of the limited role the Founding Fathers envisioned of the office of president to its current status as the most powerful job in the world.
